Vajradhara (the primordial buddha, Tilopa, Naropa, Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa.

This is an original Master Quality Vajradhara Kagyu Lineage Tree Tibetan Thangka Painting from Nepal. Vajradhara is the source of the Kagyu lineage. He is not a historical figure, but rather the manifestation of enlightenment itself. Tilopa received the vajrayana teachings directly from Vajradhara. The Kagyu lineage is one of three lineages that were established after Atisha. The other two lineages are the Sakya and Gelug lineages.

The Kagyu lineage tree refers to the traditional genealogy or lineage chart that depicts the succession of teachers and teachings within the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The Kagyu lineage is one of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and it is known for its emphasis on the direct transmission of teachings from master to disciple. Buddhā Vajradhara is the primordial Buddha, the Dharmakaya Buddha. He is depicted as dark blue in color, expressing the quintessence of Buddhahood itself and representing the essence of the historical Buddha's realization of enlightenment

The Kagyu lineage traces its roots back to the Indian yogi Tilopa (988-1069 CE), who was the main teacher of Naropa (1016-1100 CE). In turn, Naropa became Marpa Lotsawa's teacher (1012-1097 CE), a great translator and key figure in the lineage.

Marpa transmitted the teachings to his most famous disciple, the Tibetan yogi and poet Milarepa (1040-1123 CE). Milarepa's spiritual lineage continued through various important masters like Gampopa (1079-1153 CE), the founder of the Kagyu tradition. Gampopa's disciples established different Kagyu lineages, leading to a rich tapestry of sub-lineages and traditions within Kagyu Buddhism.

The Kagyu lineage tree depicts this transmission of teachings from one master to the next, illustrating the spiritual connection between generations of practitioners. It serves as a visual representation of the spiritual lineage and the unbroken chain of wisdom passed down through the ages. Different Kagyu lineages may have slightly different representations of the lineage tree, depending on their specific histories and teachings.
