At the center sits Shakyamuni Buddha on a lotus throne. His right hand touches the earth, showing the moment of enlightenment. His left hand holds a blue alms bowl. A glowing Mandala halo surrounds him, detailed with gold. Two monks stand beside him, holding alms bowls, showing his closest disciples.

Above the central figure, a special detail appears. A Buddha sits at the top center, surrounded by nine smaller Buddhas on clouds. This represents the Buddhas of all directions and the endless flow of wisdom.

Around the Mandala, many scenes tell the story of Buddha’s life. You can see his royal life, his renunciation, deep meditation under the Bodhi tree, his teachings to disciples, and his final passing into Nirvana under the Sal trees.
