This is an exquisite hand-painted Tibetan Thangka of Citipati — the Dancing Skeleton Couple — beautifully framed in traditional silk brocade. The artwork is crafted on handmade cotton canvas using natural mineral pigments, showcasing fine detail and vibrant contrast against a black background.

Citipati represent the Lord and Lady of the Charnel Grounds, protectors of the Dharma and reminders of life’s impermanence. Far from being morbid, this imagery is considered auspicious in Vajrayana Buddhism. It symbolizes the eternal cycle of life and death, transforming fear into liberation.

The skeleton couple is shown dancing joyfully, holding ritual implements such as the kapala (skull cup) and flaming staff, which symbolize spiritual awakening through the dissolution of the ego. Their dance celebrates impermanence, a central theme in Buddhist teachings.

The piece is finished with a rich antique-blue silk brocade frame, traditionally used in monasteries and sacred spaces.
