This is an original hand-painted Tibetan Thangka depicting Four-Armed Black Jambhala, the powerful Buddhist wealth deity. Known in Hinduism as Kubera, Jambhala is regarded as the God of Wealth and Prosperity, believed to bestow abundance, remove poverty, and bring happiness to sincere practitioners.
In this rare Thangka, Black Jambhala is shown with four arms, standing upon a corpse, symbolizing victory over ignorance and obstacles. In his right hand, he holds a kapala (skull cup) filled with jewels, while his left hand carries a mongoose, which produces endless treasures of gold and silver. His fierce yet compassionate form reminds devotees that wealth should be used wisely to support spiritual growth and the well-being of others.
Symbolism and Belief:
Wealth and Prosperity: Chanting Jambhala’s mantra is believed to attract abundance and fulfill wishes.
Fiery Chest Affliction: Represents his burden of excessive wealth. When nectar is offered by Buddhas, his suffering eases, and he generously releases treasures through his mongoose.
Protector of the Needy: Known to help the less fortunate and solitary practitioners with virtuous intentions.
Fierce Expression: Symbolizes compassionate activity that subdues obstacles.
