About Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara)
Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara or Lokeshwor, is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. His name means “The Lord Who Looks Down Upon the World,” reflecting his vow to hear the suffering of all beings and respond with boundless compassion. He is one of the most widely worshipped figures in Tibetan Buddhism and is often the first deity honored in Buddhist practice.
In this Thangka, Chenrezig is seated at the center, radiating peace and loving-kindness.
Above him, enlightened Buddhas appear, symbolizing awakened wisdom.
Below him, Vajrapani (power and protection) and Manjushri (wisdom) complete the sacred triad, representing the balance of compassion, strength, and insight.
