This meticulously hand-painted Newari Paubha showcases the revered Manjushree Bodhisattva, surrounded by high-quality cotton brocade. The Thangka is oil-varnished to protect it from damage and enhance its visual appeal. In Buddhism, Manjushree is revered as the 'God of Divine Wisdom' and is believed to bestow wisdom and intelligence upon those who worship him. Manjushree appears in various Tantric forms in Tibetan Buddhism, each carrying unique symbolism and profound spiritual significance.

According to the Swayambhu Purana, a sacred text in Nepalese Buddhism, the Kathmandu Valley was once an expansive, uninhabitable lake. However, the divine wisdom of Manjushree, the God of Wisdom, spotted a lotus flower sprouting at the lake's center, symbolizing enlightenment, purity, and divinity. With his wisdom, he carved a gorge at Chovar, allowing the water to drain and transforming the valley into a habitable space. The lotus flower settled at Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, marking a significant event in the valley's history.

The form of Manjushree, with one face and two arms, is a prevalent depiction in Tibetan Buddhism. In this form, he wields a sword of wisdom in his right hand and a book of teachings in his left hand. This exquisite hand-painted Tibetan Thangka, with its intricate details and vibrant colors, embodies the divine wisdom and intelligence of Manjushree Bodhisattva but also captivates the viewer with its visual appeal. Each element of the Thangka, from the sword symbolizing wisdom to the book representing teachings, signifies a deeper understanding of Buddhist principles. This makes the Thangka a visually stunning artwork and a profound spiritual artifact for those seeking spiritual enlightenment.
