This Tibetan Thangka painting beautifully represents the sacred mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum,” a timeless spiritual invocation that embodies the essence of compassion, wisdom, and the path to enlightenment.

This mantra is one of the most well-known in Tibetan Buddhism and is closely associated with Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Its power lies in the union of intention (mani) and wisdom (padme)—qualities that help purify the body, speech, and mind, guiding practitioners toward awakening.

Double Vajra (Vishva Vajra) – Meaning
1. Symbol of Stability and Indestructibility
The vajra (or dorje in Tibetan) is a symbol of the indestructible nature of truth, often associated with a diamond (hardness) and thunderbolt (irresistible force).

When two vajras are crossed (forming a double vajra), it represents absolute stability, unshakable foundation, and cosmic balance.

2. Four Directions / Elements
The four arms of the double vajra radiate outwards, symbolizing the four cardinal directions.

It also represents the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air, united in harmony.

3. Protection and Sacred Space
The double vajra is often placed beneath sacred objects like stupas, mandalas, and thangkas to protect against negative energies.

It creates a sacred space that signifies the center of the universe (Axis Mundi).

4. Buddha Akshobhya's Emblem
In tantric iconography, the double vajra is associated with Buddha Akshobhya, the immovable Buddha, who embodies mirror-like wisdom and unshakable resolve.

In Mantras and Mandalas
In mandalas or thangka paintings, the double vajra:

Anchors the center of the mandala.

Represents the unchanging reality beyond dualistic thinking.

It is often combined with the Om mantra, enhancing the sacred energy.
