Hand-painted Vajradhara Buddha Thangka with Silk Brocade

This is an original Tibetan Thangka depicting Buddha Vajradhara crafted using natural colors on a handmade cotton canvas. This thangka comes adorned with a beautiful, high-quality silk brocade. Vajradhara is considered the primordial Buddha and the dharmakaya Buddha. He is depicted as dark blue and represents the quintessence of Buddhahood itself. Vajradhara symbolizes the essence of the historical Buddha's realization of enlightenment.

Two thousand five hundred years ago, Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya and became the Buddha. According to Buddhist cosmology, he was the Fourth Historic Buddha of this fortunate eon. The realization of enlightenment itself, known as the dharmakaya or body of truth, was achieved by Prince Siddhartha. When he expressed his realization through subtle symbols, it was called the sambhogakaya or body of enjoyment. Finally, when such realization manifested in a more accessible physical form for all sentient beings, such as the historical Shakyamuni Buddha, it was called the nirmanakaya or body of manifestation.

The dharmakaya, synonymous with Vajradhara Buddha, is the source of all manifestations of enlightenment. Vajradhara is central to the Kagyu lineage because Tilopa received the Vajrayana teachings directly from Vajradhara, the dharmakaya Buddha. This means that the Kagyu lineage originated from the very nature of Buddhahood.
