This is an original masterpiece of an extremely finely painted Tibetan Thangka of White Tara. The Thangka is painted with natural stone colors and gold. White Tara’s compassion for all living beings and her desire to alleviate their suffering is said to be even stronger than a mother’s love for her children. As the embodiment of enlightened maternal compassion, she possesses infinite sympathy for those facing life's challenges. She represents the female aspect of the universe and is considered the source of all life; thus, she lovingly nurtures, sustains, and celebrates the vitality of creation. Meditating on this goddess brings health, long life, fearlessness, patience, and peace. She is especially revered for her swift responses to the prayers of those who seek her help. Her color white symbolizes her radiant purity and reflects her fundamental nature, which embodies the ultimate truth, complete and undifferentiated.
**Gestures and Attributes**
White Tara is depicted in a posture of graceful ease, with both legs raised and crossed, exuding regal elegance and serenity. Her right hand is extended downward, palm open, with the thumb and index finger touching. This hand position is known as Varada Mudra, a gesture that grants wishes and bestows protection. Her left hand is raised to shoulder height, with fingers extended and palm turned outward, representing the gesture of granting refuge and freeing from fear (Abhaya Mudra). Each hand also holds the stem of a beautiful lotus flower that floats above her shoulder, symbolizing her radiant purity and power. A distinctive feature of White Tara, as shown in this representation, is her seven eyes. In addition to two ordinary eyes, she has one eye in the center of her forehead and one in each of her hands and feet. These eyes signify her ability to perceive all suffering and pleas for help in the universe, symbolizing her divine omniscience.
