This is an original hand-painted Tibetan Thangka of Manjushri (Jampelyang) — the Bodhisattva of Wisdom and one of the most revered figures in Mahayana Buddhism. Painted on handmade cotton canvas using gold and natural mineral pigments, this masterpiece reflects the artist’s meticulous precision and devotion to traditional Tibetan craftsmanship.
Manjushri embodies the omniscient wisdom essential to enlightenment. He represents the ability to discern truth from illusion and to cultivate understanding through study, contemplation, and meditation. As the divine patron of knowledge, eloquence, and insight, he bestows clarity of mind and spiritual realization upon all who seek wisdom.
In the rich spiritual tradition of Nepal and Tibet, Manjushri is also believed to have opened the Kathmandu Valley by cutting through the hills with his flaming sword, allowing it to become a sacred center of civilization. Within Tibetan Buddhism, he is honored as the protector of the Kadampa (Gelugpa) lineage, cherished for his wisdom teachings.
Symbolism & Attributes:
Flaming Sword: In his right hand, Manjushri wields the Sword of Wisdom, which cuts through ignorance — the root of all suffering.
Prajnaparamita Sutra: In his left hand, resting on a lotus, lies the Book of Perfect Wisdom, symbolizing pure understanding and insight.
Vitarka Mudra: His teaching gesture embodies the sharing of knowledge and intellectual discourse.
Golden Aura: His radiant presence reminds devotees that enlightenment arises through wisdom and compassion united.
The Manjusri Nama Samgiti (“Chanting the Names of Manjushri”) is one of the most profound Buddhist scriptures. Its verses describe Manjushri as the healer of ignorance, the umbrella of compassion, and the sovereign of wisdom — qualities beautifully captured in this sacred artwork.
