This Thangka painting features Lord Ganesha, also known as Ganapati, mounted on high-quality silk brocade. This is a unique painting of Lord Ganesha sitting on a lotus flower, with the Pashupati Nath temple of Nepal in the background.

Ganesha is one of the most significant and widely venerated deities in Hinduism. He is recognized as the remover of obstacles and is often honored before any rituals or religious ceremonies. The four-armed representation of Ganesha is especially esteemed in Nepal, where both Hindus and Buddhists celebrate him, and many independent temples throughout the Kathmandu Valley are dedicated to his worship. Ganesha is believed to aid in overcoming challenges in life, and his form is elaborately described in sacred texts like Sadhanamala and Nispannayogavali.

**Gestures and Attributes:**
Ganesha is depicted riding a white mouse and has the face of an elephant. A snake is shown as his sacred thread. Typically, he is illustrated with four arms.. In his right hands, he holds a trident (trisula) and a laddu, a type of sweet. In his left hand, he carries a parasu (axe) and a radish. Ganesha is acknowledged as the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

One well-known story tells of a challenge between Kumara (Kartikeya) and Ganesha to circumambulate the world, with the victor gaining the honor of being worshiped first. Kartikeya traveled around the world multiple times on his vehicle, the peacock, and was about to inform Shiva and Parvati of his success.
