This is an original, hand-painted Tibetan Thangka showing the Samatha meditation practice. Samatha means a calm and steady mind. It is one of the most important meditation paths in Tibetan Buddhism.

This painting explains the nine stages of training the mind. The mind is shown as an elephant. At first, it is black, showing confusion and restlessness. As meditation deepens, the elephant slowly turns white, showing purity and control. The monkey stands for distraction and wandering thoughts. The monk represents the meditator, learning to guide the mind with patience and effort.

As the stages progress, the elephant becomes calm, and the monkey loses its power. In the final stage, the monk rises into the open sky. This shows deep peace, clarity, and realization of emptiness.

This Thangka is both a teaching tool and a support for meditation. It is often used by practitioners to understand their own mental progress. The painting is finished with traditional oil varnish, which protects the surface and adds depth.

It is painted on handmade cotton canvas and mounted with premium silk brocade. Wooden rails at the top and bottom make it ready to hang.
