This Thangka painting with silk brocade depicts the seven chakras and Kundalini energy in yoga. The term "chakra" originates from Sanskrit and means "wheel," symbolizing energy flow in the human body. The seven chakras, which are energy centers, regulate emotions and have their roots in early Hinduism and Buddhism. Both religions describe the shifting nature of these chakras.
Kundalini energy is believed to be a dormant potential force within the human organism and is one of the components of the "subtle body," which consists of nadis (energy channels), chakras (psychic centers), prana (subtle energy), and Bindu (drops of essence).
The 7 chakras are Muladhara Chakra (Root), Svadhishthana Chakra (Sacral), Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus), Anahata Chakra (Heart), Vishuddha Chakra (Throat), Ajna Chakra (Third Eye), and Sahasrara (Crown of Head).
