This is a powerful Old wooden mask of Yamantaka, the fierce "Destroyer of Death" in Tibetan Buddhism.

Yamantaka is the wrathful form of Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom. His buffalo head shows victory over Yama, the lord of death. This mask holds raw energy that drives away ignorance and evil forces.

Look closely. There are three faces stacked one on top of the other.

The top face is calm and wise — it represents Shakyamuni Buddha.

The middle face is fierce and angry — this is Mahakala, the great protector.

The bottom and largest face is a raging buffalo — this is Yamantaka himself. Curved horns twist up like sharp blades. Eyes bulge wide and full of fury. Nostrils flare. The mouth snarls with sharp fangs.

Flames swirl around like wildfire, burning away all that is bad. Carved skulls hang in chains to remind us that life ends. Snakes twist in the details, showing power and change.

The old wood has a deep, dark shine from years of smoke and touch. Worn spots and scratches tell of use in Himalayan temples or dances.
