This is an original hand-painted Tibetan Thangka of Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) — the Bodhisattva who embodies the enlightened compassion of all the Buddhas. Known as the earthly incarnation of Buddha Amitabha, Chenrezig watches over our world during the age between the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, and the future Buddha, Maitreya. Revered as the Patron Deity of Tibet, Chenrezig is one of the most beloved figures in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, his mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” resounding in every Himalayan valley.
Chenrezig vowed that until every being is freed from suffering, he would remain to help all who call upon him. His four-armed form symbolizes his tireless, compassionate activity throughout the universe.
Gestures and Attributes:
Central Hands: Held together at his heart in prayer, Chenrezig cradles the Chintamani, the wish-fulfilling jewel that manifests the pure intentions of those who seek wisdom and compassion.
Upper Right Hand: Holds a crystal mala (rosary), representing his unceasing compassion and continuous prayers for sentient beings.
Upper Left Hand: Holds a blooming lotus, symbolizing purity and enlightenment arising unstained from the muddy waters of samsara.
Deerskin Draped Over Shoulder: Signifies renunciation and his boundless empathy for all living beings — a symbol of his willingness to sacrifice himself for others, even in past lives.
Each brushstroke in this Thangka is made with devotion, using natural stone pigments, water-based colors, and gold dust, blended with traditional Tibetan hide glue for durability and brilliance. The painting is framed in high-quality silk brocade, making it a sacred and elegant wall art piece suitable for meditation, prayer, or collection.
