This exquisite hand-painted Newari Paubha beautifully depicts Lord Ganesha, also known as Ganapati, and is framed with high-quality silk. Revered as one of Nepal's most beloved guardian deities, Ganesha is widely worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. The Kathmandu Valley is home to numerous independent temples dedicated to him, each serving as a testament to his enduring significance in the spiritual landscape.

Ganesh is venerated as the divine remover of obstacles, symbolizing the hope and determination of those embarking on new ventures. In Nepal, invoking his blessings before starting any auspicious endeavor is customary, believing that his intervention can guide individuals toward success while protecting them from potential difficulties.

The depiction of Ganesh, or Ganapati, is extensively detailed in sacred texts like the Sadhanamala and Nispannayogavali, which describe his forms and attributes, further enriching the cultural tapestry surrounding this beloved deity. Celebrate the spirit of Ganesh and harness his blessings as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity, and overcoming challenges.

**GESTURES AND ATTRIBUTES**

Ganapati rides a mouse and is depicted as white in color, with an elephant head. He wears a snake as his sacred thread and has four arms. He holds a trident and a laddu (a sweet ball) in his two right hands, while in his two left hands, he carries an axe and a radish. Ganesh is the son of Shiva and Parvati.

There is a notable story involving Ganesh and his brother Kartikeya. Once, Kartikeya challenged Ganesh to circumambulate the world, with the winner worshipping first by the people. Kartikeya traveled the world on his peacock multiple times and was about to report this to Lord Shiva and Parvati. Meanwhile, Ganesh realized that he could not circumambulate the world on his small vehicle, the mouse, so he devised a clever plan. He walked around Lord Shiva and Parvati three times, winning the challenge.

The Ganesh mantra is "Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha" (ॐ गं गणपतये नमः), which translates to “My salutations to Lord Ganesha.” This mantra invokes Ganapati's blessings and seeks peace, knowledge, and prosperity.
