VAJRAKILAYA (DORJE PHURBA) – WRATHFUL TANTRIC DEITY | MASTER QUALITY TIBETAN THANGKA PAINTING
This is a fine quality, original hand-painted Tibetan Thangka depicting Vajrakilaya, also known as Dorje Phurba, the wrathful meditation deity of Vajrayana Buddhism. Vajrakilaya represents the enlightened activity of all Buddhas and is especially revered in the Nyingma tradition for his power to remove obstacles, destroy hostile forces, and purify the spiritual path.
Guru Padmasambhava first transmitted Vajrakilaya’s practice to his heart disciples and later spread throughout Tibet to protect and establish the Dharma. His fierce appearance does not represent anger, but the unstoppable force of awakened wisdom cutting through ignorance and ego.
In this sacred depiction, Vajrakilaya appears with three faces, six arms, and four legs, standing in an assertive warrior posture. At the center, he holds the phurba (ritual dagger), the ultimate symbol of indestructible reality. The dagger pierces delusion and ego at their root. Its three-edged blade represents the cutting of ignorance, desire, and hatred, while the upper section symbolizes wisdom united with skillful means.
His right hand holds a five-pronged vajra, expressing indestructible power. His left hands hold a wish-fulfilling jewel and a trident, symbolizing mastery over the three realms of existence. Vajrakilaya wears symbolic skins:
• Elephant skin – conquering ignorance
• Human skin – overcoming ego-clinging
• Tiger skin – abandoning hatred
• Garland of severed heads – transcendence of ordinary concepts
He is united with his consort Khorlo Gyedunma, who represents wisdom and bliss. She holds a skull cup filled with the blood of the four maras, symbolizing victory over death, fear, and inner obstacles. Together they stand within blazing wisdom fire, burning away delusion and negative states of mind.
This Thangka is created strictly according to traditional Vajrayana iconography and painted with deep devotion by skilled Himalayan artists. It is suitable for advanced meditation practice, protection rituals, temple use, or serious sacred art collections.
This is not decorative art alone. It is a powerful sacred image meant to support inner transformation and spiritual strength.
