This is a master-quality hand-painted Vajrakilaya (Phurbakilaya) Thangka, created on handmade cotton canvas in a striking black and gold color scheme. Vajrakilaya, the wrathful meditation deity of the Nyingma order, is revered for his ability to dispel obstacles, eliminate negative forces, and purify the spiritual path.

About Vajrakilaya

Vajrakilaya embodies the enlightened activities of all Buddhas, holding the ritual phurba dagger that pierces through ignorance, hatred, and attachment—the three root causes of suffering.

Iconography:

Vajrakilaya appears with three heads, six arms, and four legs.

His primary hands embrace his consort Khorlo Gyedunma while holding the phurba dagger, uniting wisdom and skillful means.

His right hands hold powerful vajras, while his left holds a flaming jewel and trident.

He wears elephant skin across his back (renunciation of ignorance), human skin diagonally (conquest of ego), a tiger-skin loincloth (abandonment of hatred), and a garland of severed heads (transcendence of illusions).

Consort:
Khorlo Gyedunma holds a skull cup filled with the blood of the four maras, symbolizing triumph over delusion and death. Adorned with a skull crown, she represents the purification of the five aggregates.

Together, they stand in the warrior’s pose, surrounded by the blazing fire of exalted wisdom, consuming negativity, and protecting practitioners.

Spiritual Significance

This Vajrakilaya Thangka is not only an exquisite work of art but also a powerful ritual support for meditation and tantric practice. It inspires protection, transformation, and the realization of emptiness, making it an invaluable addition to your altar, meditation space, or sacred art collection.
