Original Hand-Painted Yamantaka with Consort Vajravetali Thangka – Black & Gold Tibetan Guardian Deity Buddhist Art | Gorkha Nepal
This powerful black-and-gold Thangka depicts Yamantaka (Vajrabhairava) with his consort, Vajravetali, a striking masterpiece of Tibetan Buddhist art. Hand-painted in Nepal on traditional cotton canvas with gold and natural colors, it is a large-sized, master-quality work that radiates both ferocity and sacred energy.
Yamantaka, the wrathful emanation of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is one of the most essential Dharma protectors. Recognized by his buffalo head, nine faces, thirty-four hands, and sixteen legs, Yamantaka embodies the force that overcomes death, ignorance, and obstacles on the spiritual path.
His central hands hold a chopping knife and skull cup, while his many arms carry ritual objects including vajras, daggers, bells, and symbolic weapons.
His consort Vajravetali, the wrathful form of Saraswati, is shown in union with him, representing the inseparable union of wisdom and compassion.
Together they stand on a lotus and sun disc, surrounded by a blazing halo of red and orange flames, symbolizing pristine awareness.
Beneath their feet lie subdued gods, animals, and symbolic beings, representing the victory over ego and negativity.
With its dramatic black background, rich gold detailing, and intricate symbolism, this Thangka is not just art—it is a meditation aid, a protector, and a sacred teaching tool.
