This is an original, hand-painted Yamantaka Tibetan Thangka, created on handmade cotton canvas and framed in traditional silk brocade. Yamantaka is a powerful Buddhist guardian deity, known for protecting practitioners from enemies, obstacles, and negative forces.
Yamantaka is the wrathful manifestation of Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. His fierce form represents the destruction of death, ignorance, and fear. He is depicted with a buffalo head, symbolizing supreme power and unstoppable wisdom.
In this detailed Thangka, Yamantaka appears with seven heads, thirty-four arms, and sixteen legs, expressing his vast ability to act in all directions at once. His flaming red hair, sharp fangs, third eye, and intense expression reflect his wrathful compassion. Above his crown, the peaceful head of Manjushri rests, reminding us that wisdom is the source of this powerful form.
His main hands hold a chopping knife and a human skull cup, while he embraces his consort, Vajra Vetali, who also holds a skull cup. His other hands carry ritual tools, weapons, symbolic objects, and severed heads, each representing the destruction of ego, ignorance, and harmful emotions.
Yamantaka stands upon subdued animals and deities, showing his victory over inner and outer obstacles. He rises from a lotus seat on a blazing sun disc, surrounded by flames of enlightened awareness. A skull cup filled with offerings rests beside the lotus base.
This Thangka is not a print or reproduction. Every detail is hand-painted in the traditional Tibetan Thangka style, making it ideal for meditation, ritual practice, altar display, or serious collectors of Himalayan sacred art.
