Oil-Varnished Lord Shiva Thangka, Mahadeva Hindu Painting with Silk Brocade, Hand-Painted in Nepal

This original, hand-painted Thangka depicts Lord Shiva, also known as Shankar, Mahadeva, and Maheshwar, one of Hinduism‘s principal deities. Painted in Nepal on handmade cotton canvas using natural colors, the artwork is finished with traditional oil varnish and mounted in premium silk brocade.

The oil-varnished finish adds warmth and depth with a subtle sheen while helping protect the painted surface. The varnish can appear slightly different depending on lighting and viewing angle.

Lord Shiva – Mahadeva

Within the Hindu Trimurti, Shiva is traditionally associated with dissolution and transformation, alongside Brahma as creator and Vishnu as preserver. His role represents not destruction for its own sake, but the transformation and renewal essential to the cosmic cycle.

Shiva embodies seemingly contrasting qualities. He can appear as a powerful and formidable deity while also representing meditation, inner stillness, compassion, and spiritual wisdom.

Within Shaivism, Shiva is revered as the Supreme Being and ultimate reality. His imagery has therefore remained an important focus of worship, meditation, and devotion throughout Hindu traditions.

Symbolism and Spiritual Meaning

Lord Shiva is deeply associated with transformation, meditation, detachment, spiritual awareness, and transcending worldly limitations. His imagery can serve as a meaningful reminder of material existence‘s impermanence and the importance of inner awareness.

This hand-painted artwork blends traditional Himalayan craftsmanship with sacred Hindu imagery. Mounted in premium silk brocade with cotton string and a wooden railing, it has the traditional presentation of a Himalayan scroll painting.

It suits a Hindu prayer room, meditation space, yoga room, home altar, spiritual center, or collection of Nepalese and Himalayan sacred art.
