This is an original, hand-painted, oil-varnished Wheel of Life (Bhavachakra Mandala) Tibetan Thangka, framed with traditional silk brocade.
The Thangka depicts the various life cycles and activities of Lord Buddha, symbolically representing the material world in which beings are bound to birth, aging, suffering, and death. The Wheel of Life serves as a profound teaching tool in Buddhism, reminding practitioners of the cycles of samsara and the possibility of liberation through the cultivation of wisdom and compassion.
The word Mandala, derived from Sanskrit, means "circle" and represents wholeness and cosmic unity. It is a cosmic diagram, reflecting both the infinite universe and the inner world of mind and spirit.
This is an older Thangka painting with visible wear and tear that adds to its authenticity and vintage character. However, the main image remains intact and unaffected. The oil varnish not only enhances the colors but also protects the surface, giving the artwork greater durability and a luminous sheen.
