Original Hand-painted Masterpiece Shakyamuni Buddha/ Siddhartha Gautama Tibetan Wall Hanging, Meditation, Meditate Thangka, Thanka Painting
Shakyamuni, also known as Gautama Buddha, is the Buddha of our present time. He is the revered root teacher of all the diverse lineages that make up Buddhism as we know it today. Born Siddhartha Gautama, he was the crown prince of the Shakya kingdom, located in the Himalayan foothills of southern Nepal. He left behind a life of luxury to understand the nature of suffering and how to overcome fear. His incredible courage, determination, wisdom, and compassion led him to achieve perfect enlightenment despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles. His teachings have transformed individuals and nations worldwide and resonate with us today.
The Buddha is often depicted with his right hand extended toward the earth in the Bhumisparsha Mudra, also known as the witness gesture. In this pose, he is "calling the earth to witness" his supreme victory over" the temptations and illusions" s of the material world, as symbolized by the demon Mara. His left-hand rests in his lap with the palm upward in the gesture of meditation (Dhyana Mudra). In some representations, he also holds the begging bowl of an ordained Buddhist monk. This bowl contains three precious nectars, signifying that he has conquered the three demons of uncontrolled death, contaminated aggregates, and delusion. Therefore, this posture is known as "Buddha Shakyamuni Conquering the Demons," depicting t "the moment of the Buddha's full enlightenment under the Bodhi tree.
