This is a White Mahakala Tibetan Thangka Painting, varnished with oil for protection and to enhance its visual appeal. This divine thangka painting depicts the white Mahakala, also known as Kala Bhairava, a figure of utmost reverence in Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. Mahakala, a fierce manifestation, shares characteristics with Lord Vishnu in Buddhism and as a combined fierce form of Shiva and Vishnu in Hinduism. As a guardian deity, Mahakala is known as the consort of the goddess Mahakali and is depicted in various forms, each emphasizing distinct qualities and aspects. Also recognized in Hinduism as Kala Bhairava or Mahakala Bhairava, numerous temples in Nepal are dedicated to this deity.

His upper right hand also wields a Vajra-marked chopper, while his lower right hand holds a drum with streaming ribbons. The main left arm gracefully rests on his left thigh, grasping a skull cup overflowing with jewels. Meanwhile, his upper left-hand clasps a trident-tipped Khatvanga staff, and his lower left hand carries a Vajra hook. Adorned with silk scarves, an elephant skin cloak, a garland of freshly severed human hands, and a tiger skin covering his lower body, the Six-Armed White Mahakala is lavishly ornamented with exquisitely designed gold earrings, necklaces, armlets, bracelets, and girdles. Notably, his skirt is intricately painted and embellished with gold, highlighting his two prominent eyes, a flaming mustache, and beard, which showcase a mesmerizing and divine aesthetic.
