This is an original hand-painted Wheel of Life (Bhavachakra) Mandala Thangka, a powerful teaching image used in Tibetan Buddhism. The painting is finished with oil varnish, giving it an antique appearance and making it stronger and more durable than standard watercolor thangkas.
The Bhavachakra shows the cycle of existence in the material world. It explains how beings move through birth, aging, suffering, and death. This sacred diagram is used to teach the path to liberation from suffering.
At the center of the wheel are the forces that keep beings trapped in the cycle of existence. Around them are the different realms of life and the continuous movement of karma. The imagery reminds viewers of the teachings of Gautama Buddha and the path toward wisdom and freedom.
The word Mandala means circle in Sanskrit. It represents wholeness and the structure of the universe. A mandala shows how all life is connected, both within our minds and in the wider world.
This Thangka is carefully hand-painted on handmade cotton canvas using natural stone pigments. The oil-varnish layer protects the surface and gives the painting a rich, aged look. It is mounted with traditional silk brocade and fitted with brass rods and adjustable cotton thread for easy hanging.
