This original, hand-painted White Tara Thangka is a semi-old Tibetan Buddhist painting with a traditional oil-varnished finish and silk-brocade mounting. Painted on quality cotton canvas using water-based colors, natural stone pigments, and gold, the artwork has a warm, distinctive character created by its traditional materials and varnished surface.

White Tara – Compassion, Healing and Longevity

White Tara, also known as Sita Tara, is one of the most revered female figures in Tibetan Buddhism. She embodies compassion, peaceful enlightened activity, purity, and wisdom and is traditionally associated with healing and longevity practices.

White Tara is especially recognizable by her seven eyes: two on her face, one on her forehead, and one on each palm and sole. These eyes symbolize her vigilant, compassionate awareness and her ability to perceive beings‘ suffering.

Her peaceful white form represents purity, clarity, and serenity, while the lotus traditionally associated with Tara symbolizes spiritual awakening and the possibility of remaining unstained by worldly difficulties.

For practitioners, White Tara imagery can serve as a meaningful focus for meditation, prayer, and contemplation of compassion, wisdom, and longevity.

Semi-Old Oil-Varnished Character

This semi-old, hand-painted Thangka has a traditional oil-varnished surface. The varnish adds warmth, depth, and a subtle sheen while helping protect the painted surface.

Because this is a semi-old artwork, natural signs of age may be visible, including subtle color fading, wrinkles, surface variations, and normal wear. These characteristics contribute to the painting‘s individual appearance and character.

Traditional Himalayan Craftsmanship

The painting is individually hand-painted on cotton canvas using traditional Himalayan techniques and mounted in traditional silk brocade.

Its detailed Buddhist iconography, oil-varnished finish, and traditional textile mounting make it suitable for a Buddhist altar, meditation room, Dharma center, sacred space, or collection of Tibetan and Himalayan art.
