This is an original hand-painted Thangka of Jambhala, also known as Yellow Dzambhala or Kubera, the deity of wealth and prosperity in Tibetan Buddhism.
Jambhala is believed to remove poverty and bring abundance, allowing people to focus on spiritual practice without worrying about daily needs. His blessings are said to bring good fortune, wisdom, long life, and success in both worldly and spiritual life.
In this painting, Jambhala sits like a king. He wears a crown, silk robes, and rich jewelry, showing his role as the guardian of wealth.
In his right hand, he holds a citron fruit, a sacred symbol of prosperity and long life.
In his left hand, he holds a mongoose that continuously spits out jewels and treasures. This represents victory over the nagas, the serpent spirits believed to guard hidden wealth.
According to Buddhist tradition, when demons tried to disturb the teachings of Gautama Buddha, Dzambhala protected the Buddha. Because of this brave act, the Buddha asked him to become a protector of the Dharma and help beings overcome poverty and hardship.
This Thangka shows the Yellow Dzambhala, the most well-known and widely practiced form.
The background is painted in the elegant Karma Gadri style, known for its open space, gentle clouds, and calm landscape. This style comes from the Karma Kagyu tradition and is valued for its peaceful and balanced composition.
Each detail is carefully hand-painted on handmade cotton canvas using gold, silver, and natural stone pigments.
This is a one-of-a-kind artwork created by skilled Himalayan artists in Nepal. It is not a print.
